Southern Bridge

The Southern Bridge crosses the Daugava river in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The bridge was constructed between 2004 and 2008, and was opened on November 17, 2008. Construction of the access roads is planned to last until 2013. The government control commission in the report for January 2002 to September 2008 showed that during that period costs increased in more than 5 times - from planned Ls 108,84 millions to Ls 570,14 millions.

Zaķusala

Zaķusala (English: Hare Island) is one of several islands in the Daugava river in the central part of the city Riga, the capital of Latvia. Zaķusala is home to the Riga Radio and TV Tower, which was completed in 1986. The tower is the tallest structure in the Baltic states. On the northern tip of the island, alongside the railway trestles are remnants of the Iron Bridge that was blown up during the Second World War.

Torņakalns

Torņakalns is a neighbourhood of Riga, Latvia. Located on the westbank of the Daugava River (neighborhoods along this shore are collectively known as Pārdaugava). The name Torņakalns derives from a fortified tower built in the Middle Ages close to the Daugava River to alarm the city of Riga in case of emergency and unwelcomed intruders about to cross the river. The tower does not stand nowadays. Torņakalns was an early suburb to Riga, consisting largely of gardens and mansions.
