Our Lady of Bekaa

Our Lady of Zahle and the Bekaa (also spelled Beqaa), is a Marian shrine located in the city of Zahlé in the Beqaa Valley. In 1958, Bishop Euthym, a man of great devotion to Our Lady, decided to build a shrine in honor of the Virgin Mary on the top of a hill overlooking Zahle and the Bekaa Valley. A ten-meter-high bronze statue of the Virgin Mary, the work of the Italian artist, Pierroti, rests on a 54 meter high tower, crowning a hill known by the name of Tel Chiha.

Geography of Lebanon

Lebanon is part of Southwestern Asia, and it is located at about approximately 35˚N, 35˚W, stretching along the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea, its length almost three times its width. As it stretches from north to south, the width of its terrain becomes narrower. Lebanon's mountainous terrain, proximity to the sea, and strategic location at a crossroads of the world were decisive factors in shaping its history.

Chtaura is a town in Lebanon in the fertile Beqaa valley located between the Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon mountain range. It is located halfway on the Beirut Damascus highway. It is located 44 km from Beirut. Chtaura is the valley's hub for banking, transportation, and commerce. Hotels, and restaurants are plentiful there for the traveler on the main road. Rayak (Riyaq)

Riyaq, also Rayak, is a Lebanese town in the Beqaa Mohafazat (Governorate), near the city of Zahlé. It has one military airport, an old train station on the former line from Beirut to Damascus, and a hospital. Riyaq Air Base was bombed by the Israeli Air Force during the 2006 Lebanon War. The landing strip was severely damaged as a result.
