2009 Perak bus crash

The 2009 Perak bus crash was an accident that happened on December 26, 2009 at 1.23 am on a Sani Express bus which carried 48 people. The incident happened when the bus was heading from Klang to Kangar skidded and crashed into the divider of Malaysia’s North-South Highway in this capital of northern Perak state which resulted 10 passengers being killed. The driver of the bus, Mohamed Kamil Mohamed Rashid (37) has been charged with reckless driving.

Taiping Airport

Taiping Airport is an airport in Taiping, Malaysia. It is located at Jalan Muzaffar Shah formerly Creagh Road, Assam Kumbang and also called as Tekah Airport. The airport was built in early 1929, this wooden structure aerodrome was the first airfield in the state of Perak and also in Peninsular Malaysia. The airstrip can accommodate the Fokker planes only, because the landing strip is too short for modern aircraft to land and take off. Taiping Airport is the oldest airport in Malaysia.

Kamunting Detention Center

Kamunting Detention Centre is a prison camp located in Kamunting, near the town of Taiping, Perak, in Malaysia. The prison is used by the government to detain and interrogate persons arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA). The detention is also known as Malaysia's Supermax prison or Maximum security prison. It is alleged that this is the site where the Malaysian authorities would hold up political prisoners, usually from the opposition, and conduct torture against detainees.

Kamunting

Kamunting is the biggest satellite town in Taiping's Larut, Matang dan Selama district, Perak, Malaysia. It is also the biggest industrial town in Taiping and is famous mainly for being home to the Kamunting Detention Center a prison camp for detainees under the Internal Security Act, many of whom are held without trial for an indefinite period.
