The 2004 census listed the commune as having a population of 1,970 people. Gagauz total 1,445. Minorities included 363 Moldovans, 96 Bulgarians, 35 Russians, and 26 Ukrainians.

Comrat is a city in Moldova and the capital of the autonomous region of Gagauzia.
