Eagum

Eagum is a village in the Dutch province of Friesland. It is located in the municipality Boarnsterhim, about 10 km south of the city of Leeuwarden. With about 30 inhabitants, Eagum is one of the smallest villages in Friesland. One claim to fame is that Eagum, in the 17th century also spelled Agum, is the place of origin of the Fonda family in the United States. In 1642, Jellis Douwese Fonda (1614–1659), an innkeeper in Aegum, married Hester Jansz in Diemen, near Amsterdam.

Stins

A stins (Dutch, pl. stinsen; from West Frisian stienhûs "stone house", shortened to stins, pl. stinzen) is a former stronghold or villa in the province of Friesland, the Netherlands. Many stinsen carry the name "state". Stinsen used to belong to noblemen or prominent citizens. Most stinsen were demolished in the 19th century, when maintenance became too expensive. Several surviving stinsen are now used as museums. Stinsen also appear in East Frisia, and are known as borg (pl.

Hurdegaryp

Hurdegaryp is a village in the northern part of the Netherlands, in the municipality of Tytsjerksteradiel. Its history dates back at least to the 13th century. It has around the 5,000 citizens (2008). In Dutch the village is called Hardegarijp, Hurdegaryp is its West Frisian and official name.
