Kawau Island

Kawau redirects here. For other uses see Te Kawau, Jason Kawau, and Great Cormorant. Kawau Island is an island in the Hauraki Gulf, close to the north-eastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand. At its closest point it lies 1.4 km off the coast of the North Auckland Peninsula, just south of Tawharanui Peninsula, and about 8 km by sea journey from Sandspit Wharf, and shelters Kawau Bay to the north-east of Warkworth. It is 40 km north of Auckland.

Tawharanui Peninsula

Tawharanui Peninsula is a finger of land projecting into the Hauraki Gulf from the east coast of the much larger North Auckland Peninsula of New Zealand. It separates Omaha Bay to the north from Kawau Bay and Kawau Island to the south. The nearest sizable town is Warkworth. Tawharanui Regional Park covers 588 hectares of the peninsula's land and Tawharanui Marine Reserve covers the northern coastal sea. Both are administered by Auckland Regional Council (ARC) which also owns the regional park.

Matakana River

The Matakana River is a river of the Auckland Region of New Zealand's North Island. It flows south from its origins east of Wellsford, passing through the township of Matakana and flowing into its estuary close to the town of Warkworth. The Matakana River hosts the annual Matakana Seagull Race, a boat race where the power is provided by British Seagull outboard motors

Moturekareka Island

Moturekareka Island is a small island off the southern edge of Kawau Island in Auckland's Hauraki Gulf, approximately 43.7 km north of Auckland. It is separated from nearby Motuketekete Island by Blanche Channel. A shipwreck of a four masted barque, the Rewa (formerly the "Alice A. Leigh"), now forms an artificial breakwater on the northeastern side of the island. The Rewa was sunk intentionally by the island's owner Charles Hanson in 1930.
