Pelorus Sound

Pelorus Sound is the largest of the sounds which make up the Marlborough Sounds at the north of the South Island, New Zealand. The Marlborough Sounds is a system of drowned river valleys, which were formed after the last ice age around 10,000 years ago. Pelorus Sound has a main channel which winds south from Cook Strait for about 55 kilometres, between steeply sloped wooded hills, until it reached its head close to Havelock town.

Anakiwa, New Zealand

Anakiwa is a coastal village in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. It sits at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound, one of the Marlborough Sounds. The permanent population is estimated at 55 in the 2010, not including the staff at the Outward Bound School or owners of holiday homes. Anakiwa is also the end point of the Queen Charlotte Track.

Pelorus River

The Pelorus River is a river at the northern end of South Island of New Zealand in the region of Marlborough. It flows from the Richmond Range into Pelorus Sound. This area is fantastic for camping and is renowned for its magnificent river swimming where the Pelorus River runs through a gorge.

HMS Sparrow (1889)

HMS Sparrow was a Redbreast-class gunboat launched in 1889, the sixth Royal Navy ship to bear the name. She became the New Zealand training ship NZS Amokura in 1906 and was sold in 1922.
