Norsewood

Norsewood is a small rural town in the Manawatu-Wanganui Region of New Zealand's North Island. It is situated in the Tararua District. Its population is 330. The town is situated east of the Ruahine Mountain range and is located 20 kilometres northeast of Dannevirke. Norsewood was founded by Scandinavian settlers in 1872 as a loggers settlement and was subsequently destroyed in a fire in 1888. A fishing boat, the Bindalsfaering, is displayed in a glassed boat-house in the town.

Ruahine Range

The Ruahine Range is one of several mountain ranges in the North Island of New Zealand which form a ridge running parallel with the east coast of the island between East Cape and Wellington. The ridge is at its most pronounced from the central North Island down to Wellington, where it comprises the Ruahine, Tararua,and Rimutaka Ranges. The Ruahines run northeast-southwest for 110 kilometres from inland Hawke's Bay to near Woodville.

Mangatewainui River

The Mangatewainui River is a river of the Manawatu-Wanganui Region of New Zealand's North Island. An upper tributary of the Manawatu River, it flows generally southeast from its sources in the Ruahine Range northwest of Norsewood, and meets the young Manawatu River eight kilometres east of Dannevirke. The Mangatewainui River should not be confused with its northern neighbour, the Mangatewai River.

Takapau

Takapau is a small rural community in the Central Hawkes Bay in New Zealand. It is located 20 kilometres west of Waipukurau. The area's main industries are the Takapau Meat Works and local farms. Takapau was once the centre of a large flax milling industry. Takapau takes its name from the flax that grew in the expansive Takapau plains. The Maori word translates literally as "Mat" or "Carpet". There are two marae and two schools at Takapau and a Trappist monastery, Southern Star Abbey nearby.

Totara College of Accelerated Learning is a small state-integrated religious area school in New Zealand, formerly called Dannevirke Christian School. The school is also referred to as Totara College, and takes its name from the New Zealand native Totara tree.
