Chateau Tongariro

Chateau Tongariro is a New Zealand hotel and resort complex. It is located close to Whakapapa skifield on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu, and is close to the volcanic peaks of Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe, within the boundaries of Tongariro National Park, New Zealand's oldest. Now officially titled Bayview Chateau Tongariro, the building was completed in 1929 and, despite extensive refurbishment, still retains much of the style of the pre-Depression era.

New Zealand State Highway 48

State Highway 48 is one of New Zealand's shortest State Highways. It provides access to Whakapapa skifield on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu. It is roughly 7 km long and, with the exception of the junction with SH 47, it lies entirely within Tongariro National Park.

Whakapapa skifield

Whakapapa, on the northern side of Mount Ruapehu in New Zealand's Tongariro National Park, is one of the mountain's two commercial skifields. The other is Turoa, located on the mountain's south-western slopes. The ski season is generally from late June to late October, depending on snow and weather conditions. Turoa has a slightly longer season, generally opening a week before Whakapapa and closing early November.

Tama Lakes

The Tama Lakes are two crater lakes in New Zealand's Tongariro National Park. They fill two (Upper and Lower Tama) of a series of explosion craters on the Tama Saddle between Mount Ruapehu and Mount Ngaruahoe (a main Mount Tongariro vent).

Tukino

Tukino ski field is located on the eastern face of Mount Ruapehu, in the central area of the North Island, New Zealand. The field is a club managed field, but open to the general public. The ski area is serviced by two tows and an over-snow vehicle giving access for skiing and snow boarding. Tukino is known for its untouched trails, uncrowded slopes, friendly atmosphere and good weather. Accommodation is available at Tukino for those that want to stay and play, but bookings are essential.
