1972 Nicaragua earthquake

The 1972 Nicaragua earthquake was an earthquake that occurred at 12:29 a.m. local time on Saturday, December 23, 1972 near Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. It had a magnitude of 6.2 and occurred at a depth of about 5 kilometers beneath the centre of the city. Within an hour after the main shock, two aftershocks, one of magnitude 5.0 and the other 5.2, occurred.

Augusto C. Sandino International Airport

Augusto Cesar Sandino International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional Augusto César Sandino) is the main airport in Managua, Nicaragua. Inaugurated as Las Mercedes Airport in 1968 it was later renamed Augusto César Sandino International Airport during the Sandinista regime in 1980s and again in 2001 to Managua International Airport by then president Arnoldo Alemán.

1931 Nicaragua earthquake

The 1931 Nicaragua earthquake devastated Nicaragua's capital city Managua, on 31 March 1931. It had a magnitude of 6.0, and killed 2000 people. A major fire started and destroyed thousands of structures, burning into the next day. At least 45,000 were left homeless and losses of $35 million were recorded.
