Soot Canal

The Soot Canal, constructed in 1849, has Norway's oldest sluice gates. It was the work of Engebret Soot (1786-1859). It was built to allow timber to be transported (floated) to the Halden sawmills. The canal was 1.5 km long and had 16 locks which extended from Lake Skjervangen at 185 m above sea level up to Lake Mortsjølungen at 201 m above sea level.

Setskog

Setskog is a former municipality in Akershus county, Norway. It bordered Østfold county to the south, Hedmark county to the north and Sweden to the east. It was created by a split from Høland municipality on 1 January 1905. At that time Setskog had a population of 754. On 1 January 1966 Setskog merged with Nordre Høland, Søndre Høland and Aurskog to form the new municipality Aurskog-Høland. Prior to the merger Setskog had a population of 811.

Setten

Setten is a lake that lies in Setskog in Aurskog-Høland municiaplity in Akershus. The lake lies in typical forest terrain. The lake has many bays and small islands, and is a popular canoeing, fishing and camping area. The lake is part of the Haldenvassdraget, and empties into Mjermen. The fishing in Setten consists of northern pike, European perch, common roach, common bleak and burbot.
