On 1 January 1964 the districts of Årvik, Veastad and Vik with 578 inhabitants were incorporated into Ølen municipality. The rest of Vikebygd, with 471 inhabitants, was reincorporated into Sveio. On 1 January 2006 Ølen municipality was incorporated into Vindafjord municipality in Rogaland county.
