The river Otta, which begins in Skjåk municipality, flows into lake Vågåvatn. It then exits the Vågåvatn at Vågåmo and continues its journey through the Ottadal leaving Vågå municipality to meet the Gudbrandsdalslågen river at the town of Otta in Sel municipality.
