It lies in the municipalities of Tranøy, Dyrøy, Sørreisa, and Lenvik. The 27-kilometre long strait flows into the Vågsfjorden to the southwest and into the Finnfjorden and Reisafjorden. Vangsvik is one of the larger settlements along the Solbergfjorden.
