Jericho Governorate

The Jericho Governorate is one of 16 Governorates of the Palestinian National Authority (administrative districts) within the Palestinian territories. It is located along the eastern areas of the West Bank, along the northern Dead Sea and southern Jordan River valley bordering Jordan. The Governorate spans west to the mountains east of Ramallah and the eastern slopes of Jerusalem, including the northern reaches of the Judean desert.

West Bank

The West Bank is a landlocked territory, located in Western Asia. The West Bank shares boundaries to the west, north, and south with the state of Israel, and to the east, across the Jordan River, with the Kingdom of Jordan. The West Bank also contains a significant coastline along the western bank of the Dead Sea. The West Bank, including East Jerusalem, has a land area of 5,640 km and 220 km water, the northwest quarter of the Dead Sea. It has an estimated population of 2,622,544 (June 2012).

Zaretan

Zaretan (also known as Zarethan or Zeredathah) is a city mentioned in the Bible, as near the location where the Hebrews crossed the Jordan. In the books of Joshua and 2 Kings, it is called Zarethan, but in 2 Chronicles it is called Zeredathah. Zaredathah stood in the Jordan Valley, on the east bank of the river, a few kilometres northwest of Succoth and approximately 70 kilometres north-northeast of Jerusalem.

Alexandrium

Alexandrion or Alexandrium, sometimes referred to as Sartaba, was a fort constructed by the Hasmoneans on a mountain between Scythopolis and Jerusalem, near the Jordan Valley. It was likely named after Hasmonean king Alexander Jannæus (104-77 BCE).

Yitav

Yitav is an Israeli settlement and moshav shitufi in the southern Jordan Valley of the West Bank. Located just north of Jericho and west of the Palestinian village of al-Auja, it falls under the jurisdiction of Bik'at HaYarden Regional Council. The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.
