Vărădia de Mureș

Vărădia de Mureș (colloquially Totvărădia, or "Slovak Vărădia"; Hungarian: Tótvárad; German: Waradia) is a commune in Arad County, Romania. It stretches over approximately 12600 hectares, situated in the contact zone of Metaliferi Mountains and Zărandului Mountains, respectively partially in the large valley of the Mureș River. It is composed of six villages: Baia, Julița, Lupești, Nicolae Bălcescu, Stejar and Vărădia de Mureș (situated at 81 km from Arad).

Săvârşin

Săvârșin is a commune in Arad County, Romania. Săvârșin commune lies at the foot of the Metaliferi Mountains, at its contact point with the Mureș Couloir. Its surface occupies approximately 22000 hectares and it is composed of nine villages: Căprioara, Cuiaș, Hălăliș, Pârnești, Săvârșin (situated at 87 km from Arad), Temeșești, Toc, Troaș and Valea Mare. Săvârșin is best known for the royal palacce Săvârșin Castle.

Săvârșin Castle

The Royal castle of Săvârşin, near Arad, Transylvania, is the country seat of King Michael I of Romania. While the castle was seized from the Royal Family by the Romanian communist authorities in 1948, in 2000, a Romanian court ordered that the building be restored to King Michael I. On 30 December 2007, the 60th anniversary of his abdication, King Michael chose Săvârșin as the location for the signing of the new statutes defining the role and powers of the royal family.
