Battle of the Argeş

The Battle of the Argeş was a battle of the Romanian Campaign of World War I. Taking place on 1 December 1916, the battle was fought along the line of the Argeş River in Romania between Austro-German forces of the Central Powers and Romanian forces.

1 Decembrie

1 Decembrie is a commune in the south of Ilfov County, Romania, composed of a single village, 1 Decembrie. It also included Copăceni village until 2005, when it was split off to form a separate commune. It has a population of 9,436, of which 9,067 (96.08%) are Romanians and 363 (3.84%) are Roma (Gypsies). Originally named Copăcenii de Sus, in the 1930s the village changed its name to Regele Ferdinand, in memory of King Ferdinand of Romania.

Danube–Bucharest Canal

The Danube–Bucharest Canal is a 73-kilometre long canal project that is planned to link Bucharest, Romania, to the Danube via Argeş River. The earliest plans, made by engineer Nicolae Cucu in 1880, sought to link Bucharest to the Danube at Oltenița. In 1927, a study by Alexandru Davidescu was published at the Polytechnic School.
