Zubtsov is a town and the administrative center of Zubtsovsky District of Tver Oblast, Russia, located at the confluence of the Volga and Vazuza Rivers, 153 kilometers south of Tver, 18 kilometers southeast of Rzhev, and 44 kilometers southwest of Staritsa. Population: 6,927; 7,430; 7,630; 8,100 (1998 est.). Zubtsov was first mentioned in a chronicle in 1216. In the Middle Ages, it was a border fortress of the Principality of Tver.

The lower part of the river has been transformed into Vazuza Reservoir. The towns of Sychyovka and Zubtsov are located on the Vazuza (the latter at its confluence with the Volga).
