Alpujarra de la Sierra

Alpujarra de la Sierra is a municipality located in the province of Granada, Spain. According to the 2007 census, the city has a population of 1168 inhabitants. It was formed by the union in 1971 of Mecina Bombarón and Yegen, and is situated in the central-northern area of La Alpujarra, 108 km from the provincial capital, in the south-east of Spain. It is bounded by the municipalities of Lanteira, Válor, Ugíjar, Cádiar and Bérchules.

It is part of the municipality of Alpujarra de la Sierra. It is on the old GR 7 trading route (now a long-distance footpath) that runs from Algeciras to Greece.

Yegen

Yegen is a village in the mountainous Alpujarras region of Spain. It is part of the municipality of Alpujarra de la Sierra. The village was the home of the British writer Gerald Brenan in the 1920s, and he described its customs in South from Granada, one of his better-known books. In recent years the village has held events commemorating the writer's interest in local culture. A Brenan museum is being developed in the village.
