Calatrava la Vieja

Calatrava la Vieja (formerly just Calatrava) is a medieval site and original nucleus of the Order of Calatrava. It is now part of the Archaeological Parks (Parques Arqueológicos) of the Community of Castile-La Mancha. Situated at Carrión de Calatrava, Calatrava during the High Middle Ages was the only important city in the Guadiana River valley. It thus guarded the roads to Córdoba and Toledo.

Battle of Montiel (1143)

On 1 March 1143 the Battle of Montiel was fought between Muño Alfonso and an army of knights from Ávila, Segovia, and Toledo on one side and a force of Almoravids on the other. The Christians were accompanied by priests. It was a decisive victory for Muño. Early in 1143 Muño set out with a hand-picked troop of 900 knights and 1,000 infantrymen of the local militias to raid the area around Córdoba.

Quijote Arena

Quijote Arena is an arena in Ciudad Real, Spain. It is primarily used for team handball and is the home arena of BM Ciudad Real. The arena holds 5,863 people and was opened in 2003. It is located on the Avenida de Puertollano, and is owned by the municipality of Ciudad Real. Arena is expected to be extended in future to hold 7,500 spectators for the 2013 World Men's Handball Championship
