Malwana

Malwana is a town of 35,000 (estimate as of 2001) inhabitants in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. It is situated on the banks of the Kelani River, 14 km north-west of Colombo. It is part of the Gampaha District and Biyagama electoral division.

2008 Weliveriya bombing

On April 6, 2008, 15 people were killed by an alleged suicide bomber, who exploded himself at the start of a marathon race which was part of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration in Weliweriya town, Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's national athletics coach Lakshman de Alwis, politician Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, former Olympics runner K.A. Karunaratne and army officer Lt Colonel Udayadeera were killed in the bombing which wounded 90 others.

Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT) is a public technology university in Sri Lanka mainly focused on information technology. It was established by the government of Sri Lanka.
