Harrat Ash Shamah

The Harrat Ash Shamah (also known variously as the Harrat Ash Catchem and the Harrat e-Shamah) is a volcanic field covering a total area of some 40,000 km . This massive alkaline volcanic field extends from southern Syria, across Jordan and into northwestern Saudi Arabia. Amongst others, the Jabal al-Druze, Es Safa and Dirat at Tulul volcanic fields form the northern, Syrian part of the Harrat Ash Shamah; Al Harrah is in the southern, Saudi Arabian third of the field.

Daraa

Daraa, also Darʿā, Dara’a, Deraa, Dera, and Derʿā, is a city in southwestern Syria, just north of the border with Jordan. It is the capital of Daraa Governorate, historically part of the ancient Hauran region. The city is located about 90 kilometres south of Damascus on the Damascus-Amman highway, and is used as a stopping station for travelers.

Al-Ariqah

Ariqah or ‘Arīqah is a village in southern Syria with a population of about 3,000. It is located in the heart of the rocky volcanic plateau of Lejah also called (Lajat). Administratively Ariqah is situated in the Mantiqat Shahba (Shahba district) of As Suwayda Governorate. Ariqah is known for its volcanic cave which is located in a 10 meters deep hollow in the centre of the village.

Gemarrin Bridge

The Bridge of Gemarrin is a Roman bridge in the vicinity of the ancient city of Bosra, southern Syria. The bridge, which belonged to the Roman road to Soada Dionysias, crossed the Wadi Zeidi some kilometers north of Bosra. Today, the structure presents itself essentially as an arch skeleton: while the three semi-circular arches, made from local basalt, are still extant, the roadway and the fill have been removed to expose the top of the arch vaults.
