Latakia Camp
The Latakia camp is an "unofficial" Palestinian refugee camp located within the municipal boundaries of Latakia on the Mediterranean coast. Established in 1955-1956 on an area of 220,000 square meters, most of the refugees originate from the city of Jaffa and villages in northern Palestine. Al-Assad Stadium (also known as Al-Basil Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium in Latakia, Syria. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 25,000 spectators. The stadium was opened in 1978 and completely renovated in 2004. It is home to Syrian Premier League football clubs Hutteen SC and Tishreen SC. The complex includes a nearby Olympic size swimming and diving pools and a hotel.
