2003 Bingöl earthquake

The 2003 Bingöl earthquake was a magnitude 6.4 earthquake that hit eastern Turkey on May 1, 2003 at 03:27 local time . The epicenter was in Bingöl Province, 15 km north of Bingöl. At least 176 people were killed, and 625 buildings collapsed or suffered heavy damage in the affected region. 84 of the fatalities occurred when a dormitory block collapsed in a boarding school in Celtiksuyu.

The 1971 Bingöl earthquake occurred at 18:43 local time on 22 May. It had a magnitude of 6.7 on the surface wave magnitude scale and a maximum intensity of VIII (Destructive) on the Mercalli intensity scale, killing about 1,000 people.

2010 Elâzığ earthquake

The 2010 Elâzığ earthquake was a 6.1 Mw earthquake that occurred on 8 March 2010 at 02:32 UTC . The epicentre of the quake was Başyurt in Elâzığ province, in eastern Turkey. Initial reports in global media said as many as 57 people had died. Reports in the Turkish media two days after the quake placed the death toll at 41. Later, the death toll rose to 42. Another 74 were injured, many after falling and jumping from buildings during the quake.
