Battle of the Granicus

The Battle of the Granicus River in May 334 BC was the first of three major battles fought between Alexander the Great and the Persian Empire. Fought in Northwestern Asia Minor, near the site of Troy, it was here that Alexander defeated the forces of the Persian satraps of Asia Minor, including a large force of Greek mercenaries led by Memnon of Rhodes. The battle took place on the road from Abydos to Dascylium, at the crossing of the Granicus River.

Biga, Çanakkale

Biga is a town and district of Çanakkale Province in the Marmara region of Turkey. It is located on the Biga River, 90 km northeast from Çanakkale city centre. According to the 2000 census, population of the district is 80,982 of which 37,196 live in the town of Biga. The district covers an area of 1,354 km, and the town lies at an elevation of 21 m . The center of COMU Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences is in Biga.

1983 Biga earthquake

The 1983 Biga earthquake hit northwestern Turkey on 5 July 1983. Responsible for five deaths and approximately twenty-six casualties throughout Biga and Erdek and damage in Istanbul, the earthquake measured 6.1 on the Surface wave magnitude scale. It shook places as far away as eastern Greece. The United States Geological Survey listed the earthquake among the "Significant Earthquakes of the World" for 1983.

Hedeyli, Hayrabolu

Hedeyli is a village in Hayrabolu district of Tekirdağ Province, Turkey, It is situated in the eastern Trakya (Thrace) plains at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:40|19|N|27|1|E||| | |name= }}. The distance to Hayrabolu is 18 kilometres . The population of the village is 331 as of 2011. It was a Bulgarian village during the Ottoman Empire era. But after the Second Balkan War the Bulgarian population was forced to leave the settlement.
