Durankaya

Durankaya is town in the central district of Hakkari Province, Turkey. It is situated at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:37|34|N|43|37|E||| | |name= }}. The distance to Hakkari is about 15 kilometres . The population of the town is 3822. as of 2011. Reverse tulip (Fritillaria imperialis Turkish: ters lale) which is endemic to areas neighbouring south east Turkey, is abundant in the mountains around Durankaya.

Massacres of Badr Khan

The Massacres of Bader Khan were a series of massacres carried out by the Kurdish Emirs of Buhtan and Hakkari Badr Khan and Noorallah, against the Assyrians of Hakkari and Tiyari in the 1840s. The massacres resulted in the killing of more than 10,000 Christians and the captivity of thousands of others. It also led to the Ottoman intervention, under Western pressure, to overthrow the last semi-independent Kurdish Emirates in 1847.
