1970 Gediz earthquake

The 1970 Gediz earthquake, aka 1970 Kütahya-Gediz earthquake, was an approximately 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck western Turkey on March 28, 1970 at about 23:05 local time. The event killed 1,086 people and left 1,260 people wounded and many thousands homeless in Gediz. a district of Kütahya Province situated 98 km southeast of Kütahya. Many people were burnt alive as fires broke out from overturned stoves. 9,452 buildings in the region were severely damaged or destroyed.

Şaphane

Şaphane, formerly Abşeker, is a town and district of Kütahya Province in the Aegean region of Turkey. According to 2000 census, population of the district is 11,715 of which 4,671 live in the town of Şaphane. General Information about Şaphane: TOURISM Mt. Şaphane (Akdağ) is open for the mountain tourism with its plateaus that are rich for their oxygen levels. It is 2121 meters high and on a 100 000 hectar area with 20 000 hectars of new planting parts.

Penkalas Bridge

The Penkalas Bridge is a Roman bridge over the Penkalas (today Kocaçay), a small tributary of the Rhyndakos (Adırnas Çayı), in Aezani, Asia Minor. The 2nd century AD structure was once one of four ancient bridges in Aezani and is assumed to have been the most important crossing-point due to its central location in the vicinity of the Zeus temple and the direct access it provided to the Roman road to Cotyaeum.
