Baýramaly

Baýramaly is a city of Turkmenistan, a seat of Baýramaly District within Mary Province. It lies about 27 km east of the provincial capital Mary, along the main railway line from Ashgabat to Tashkent. In 2009, it had a population estimated at 88,486 (up from 43,824 in the 1989 census). The city is located in a dry oasis in the Murgab.

Mary Airport

Mary, Turkmenistan

Mary is the capital city of Mary Province in Turkmenistan. Former names include Merv, Meru and Margiana. It is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:37|36|N|61|50|E|region:TM_type:city|| |primary |name= }}. The city is an oasis in the Karakum Desert, located on the Murghab river. In 2009, Mary had a population of 123,000, up from 92,000 in the 1989 census. In Kerait tradition, Mary the mother of Jesus was buried here. The city also has an airport.

Margu

Margu was a satrapy of the Achaemenid Empire. The ruler who lost a Bactrian revolt is mentioned as a Margian in the Behistun inscriptions of ca. 515 BCE by Darius Hystaspis. It is not mentioned as a satrapy in the inscription, because it was included in a larger satrapy of the empire.
