Zmiiv

Zmiiv is a city in Kharkiv Oblast of Ukraine. The population as of 2001 was 17,063. Zmiiv is the administrative center of Zmiivskyi Raion. Between 1976 and 1990, the city was renamed after Klement Gottwald, a Czechoslovak politician, to Gotwald.

Kharkiv International Airport

Kharkiv International Airport (Ukrainian: Міжнародний аеропорт "Харків"), is an airport located in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The airport is the main airfield serving the city of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city. Located to the south-east of the city centre, in the city's Kominternivskyi district. The main terminal at Kharkiv was built in the 1950s in a socialist neo-classical style favoured by Joseph Stalin.

Drobytsky Yar

Drobytsky Yar is a ravine 8–12 km south east from Kharkiv, Ukraine. In December 1941, Nazi troops invading the Soviet Union began killing local inhabitants over the following year. At the end of this period, some 16,000 people, mainly Jews were killed. Notably on December 15, 1941, when the temperature was −15 degrees Celsius (+5 °F), ca. 15,000 Jews were shot. Children were thrown into pits alive, to save bullets, in expectation that they quickly freeze to death.

KhTZ Stadium

KhTZ stadium, which is located between "Maselskogo" and "Radyanskoyi Armiyi" Kharkiv Metro stations, serves as a home soil to rugby clubs RC Olуmp and RC TEX-A-C and is sometimes used for athletics tournaments of domestic importance. The stadium was built in Soviet times as a primary fitness centre for workers of the Kharkiv Tractor Plant.

Third Battle of Kharkov

The Third Battle of Kharkov was a series of battles on the Eastern Front of World War II, undertaken by the German Army Group South against the Red Army, around the city of Kharkov between 19 February and 15 March 1943. Known to the Germans as the Donets Campaign, and to the Soviets as the Donbas and Kharkov operations, the German counterstrike led to the destruction of approximately 52 Soviet divisions and the recapture of the cities of Kharkov and Belgorod.
