It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Dubienka. It lies approximately 31 kilometres east of Chełm and 95 km east of the regional capital Lublin. The village has a population of 1,042. In 1792, a battle between Polish and Russian armies took place near nearby.
