Brierley

Brierley (Pronounced as "bry"-"early") is a town and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England), close to the border with West Yorkshire. It lies to the south-west of Hemsworth, off the A628 road, and is located at approximately 53° 35' 40" North, 1° 23' West, at an elevation of around 100 metres above sea level. At the 2001 census it had a population of 5,973. The civil parish of Brierley contains the large pit village of Grimethorpe.

Shafton is a civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley in South Yorkshire, England, on the border with West Yorkshire. At the 2001 census it had a population of 2,840. The parish contains the villages of Shafton and Shafton Two Gates. Shafton lies to the north of Shafton Two Gates, on the road to Ryhill. Little Houghton, South Yorkshire

Little Houghton is a hamlet and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. At the 2001 census it had a population of 618. Access to the hamlet of Little Houghton is gained by travelling along Middlecliff Lane through the village of Middlecliffe. The larger village is made up of mainly council and ex-council houses. Little Houghton was previously the site of two large coal mines. Houghton Main was a deep shaft mine and Dearne Valley a drift mine.
