Interesting facts about this location

River Earn

The River Earn in Scotland leaves Loch Earn at St Fillans and runs east through Strathearn, then east and south, joining the River Tay near Abernethy. The Earn is about 46 miles long. It passes by Comrie, Crieff and Bridge of Earn. The river is fast flowing, with many shoals, and is not navigable, even by small vessels. The surrounding land is generally flat and is occasionally subject to flooding. The Earn is popular with anglers and fishing permits are usually required.

River Farg

The River Farg is a small tributary of the River Earn, located in the lieutenancy area of Perth and Kinross, central Scotland. Its source is located in Glen Farg reservoir; it winds round roads and farms, and has been forced in many places to change course due to human interference. It ends in a confluence where it joins the Earn. The name Farg means "wrathful" in Manx, referring to the force of the river when in spate.

Newburgh, Fife

Newburgh is a royal burgh of Fife, Scotland having a population of 2,040 (est 2004). Newburgh has grown little since 1901 when the population was counted at 1904 persons. It is situated on the Firth of Tay, 7 m. N.W. of Ladybank Junction alongside the Edinburgh to Aberdeen railway line (between Perth and Ladybank). Newburgh railway station closed in 1955, and has never reopened in spite of local campaigns for its reinstatement.

Newburgh railway station

See also Parbold railway station which was originally named "Newburgh railway station". There have been several railway stations in Newburgh, Fife. The original was opened in 1848 by the Edinburgh and Northern Railway. The line through the station was from Ladybank to Perth. This station lasted until August 1906, when the newer station was opened. Newburgh became a junction station on 25 January 1909, when the Newburgh and North Fife Railway company opened a line from Newburgh to Dundee.
