Alloa Tower

Alloa Tower in Alloa in central Scotland is the surviving part of the medieval residence of the Clan Erskine family, the Earls of Mar. An architect which was involved in the Alloa Tower was John Melvin. Dating from the 14th century, and retaining its original timber roof and battlements, the Tower is one of the earliest, and largest, of Scottish tower houses, with immensely thick walls.

Alloa Swing Bridge

The Alloa Swing Bridge was a railway bridge that stretched across the River Forth in Scotland, connecting Throsk and Alloa. Built in 1885 as part of the Alloa Railway, the swing bridge was used for passenger and freight services for around 100 years. Twice in the early 1900s, the bridge was closed after storm damage, being reopened afterwards. The Bridge was closed to passenger services in 1968 and to freight shortly afterwards in 1970.

Bannock Burn

The Bannock Burn (Scottish Gaelic: Allt a' Bhonnaich) is a stream (burn is Scots for stream) which rises in the Touch Hills to the south-west of Stirling in central Scotland. The Bannock flows eastward and enters the River Forth to the east of Stirling, close to the site of the Battle of Bannockburn (1314). A nearby town, nowadays a suburb of Stirling, is accordingly called Bannockburn. The Battle of Sauchieburn (1488) was also fought close to the Bannock Burn.

Menstrie Castle

Menstrie Castle is a three-storey castellated house in the town of Menstrie, Clackmannanshire, near Stirling, central Scotland. From the early 17th century, it was home to Sir William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling, who was instrumental in founding the colony of Nova Scotia. It was later owned by the Holburn or Holborne family, who were created Baronets of Menstrie in 1706.
