Ross-shire

Ross-shire is an area in the Highland Council Area in Scotland. The name is now used as a geographic or cultural term, equivalent to Ross. Until 1889 the term denoted a county of Scotland, also known as the County of Ross. The county bordered on Sutherland, Cromartyshire (of which it contained many exclaves), Inverness-shire and an exclave of Nairnshire. It included most of Ross as well as Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Dingwall was the traditional county town.

Battle of Leckmelm

The Battle of Leckmelm was a Scottish clan battle that took place in 1586, in the Scottish Highlands. It was fought between the Clan Gunn against the Clan Sutherland, Mackays of Aberach and Clan MacLeod.

Corrieshalloch Gorge

Corrieshalloch Gorge is situated on the Droma River 20 km S of Ullapool (between the A832 and A835 roads near Braemore) in the Scottish Highlands. It is 1.5 km long, 60m deep and formed at the end of the last ice age (10-13,000Y BP) by rapid erosion caused by meltwater. The 46m Falls of Measach can be viewed from a viewing platform and a Victorian suspension footbridge. The gorge and surrounding area are owned by the National Trust for Scotland.

Beinn Dearg (Ullapool)

Beinn Dearg (one of a number of Scottish hills of that name) is a mountain in the Inverlael area of the Highlands of Scotland. It is most frequently climbed by following the River Lael up Gleann na Sguaib. Starting from near the head of Loch Broom a path follows the glen to a bealach about a kilometre north of the summit. From this bealach, the neighbouring peaks of Con a' Mheall and Meall na Ceapraichean may also be climbed.
