Altamont Pass

Altamont Pass, formerly Livermore Pass, is a 1,009 ft mountain pass in the Diablo Range between Livermore in the Livermore Valley and Tracy in the San Joaquin Valley in Northern California. The pass carries Interstate 580, heavily congested by Central Valley suburbanization, Altamont Pass Road, the original alignment of US 50 before it was bypassed circa 1937, and two railroad right-of-ways (ROWs). One railroad is still in use: the Western Pacific line now owned by Union Pacific.

Greenville, Alameda County, California

Greenville is a former settlement in Alameda County, California. It was located 2.5 miles southwest of Altamont, at an elevation of 584 feet (178 m). The name is in honor of John Green, first store owner here.

Clayton-Marsh Creek-Greenville Fault

The Clayton-Marsh Creek-Greenville Fault is a fault located in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area of California, in Alameda County and Contra Costa County. It is part of the somewhat parallel system of faults that are secondary to the San Andreas Fault. The 5.8 magnitude 1980 Livermore earthquake occurred on this fault. As shown on the map at left, the predicted probability of a major earthquake on this fault within the next 30 years is relatively low, only 3%.

South Bay Pumping Plant

The South Bay Pumping Plant is located 4 miles (6 km) southwest of the Clifton Court Forebay and 10.3 miles (17 km) northeast of Livermore, CA. The plant is the only main line pumping plant for the 42.9 mile (69 km) long South Bay Aqueduct. The plant pumps from the Bethany Reservoir which is part of the California Aqueduct.
