Wheeler Crest

The Wheeler Crest or Wheeler Ridge is a ridge in Mono and Inyo Counties, California. The crest is 8 miles long, and partially lies in the John Muir Wilderness. The ridge is bound on the west by Rock Creek, on the north by the community of Toms Place, on the east by Round Valley, on the southeast by Gable Creek, and on the southwest by Morgan Creek.

Crowley Lake

Crowley Lake is a reservoir on the upper Owens River in southern Mono County, California in the United States. Crowley Lake is 15 miles south of Mammoth Lakes. The lake was created in 1941 by the building of the Long Valley Dam by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP), as storage for the Los Angeles Aqueduct and for flood control. The dam is 126 feet high and impounds 183,465 acre-feet. For more on the history of the lake, see Owens Lake.

Wheeler Crest, California

Wheeler Crest is a small residential unincorporated community in southwestern Mono County, California. It functions as a bedroom community for workers in Bishop and Mammoth Lakes, and as a home for retirees. Geographically, it sits on the Sherwin Grade, which divides Round Valley in Inyo County from Long Valley in Mono County.

Sherwin Summit

Sherwin Summit (el. 6,426 feet, 1,959 m) is a mountain pass on U.S. Highway 395. It is located south of Tom's Place and Crowley Lake in the eastern part of the Sierra Nevada range. South of the summit, the road starts on its long 2,400 foot (610 m) descent into the 4,000 ft high Owens Valley. The Owens River generally follows the road from this summit through the Owens Valley.

Owens River Gorge

The Owens River Gorge is a steep 10 mi (16 km) canyon on the upper Owens River in eastern California in the United States. The canyon is located at the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Mono County, along the stretch of the river where it exits the Long Valley near its source and enters the north end of Owens Valley. The gorge is a popular destination for rock climbing.
