Lake Maloya

Lake Maloya (pictured right) is the largest lake of three in Sugarite Canyon State Park on the New Mexico-Colorado State border, northeast of Raton, New Mexico. It is the main source of water for the city and its outlying areas. Nearby, entirely inside the state of Colorado, is Lake Dorothey (pictured bottom right). The scales of the two pictures are not the same. A larger photograph of the entire lake system can be seen here. The lake covers 120 acres of the 3,600-acre park.

Hoehne, Colorado

Hoehne is an unincorporated town and a U.S. Post Office in Las Animas County, Colorado, United States. Hoehne was founded by German immigrant William Hoehne in 1859. He is credited with founding the Hoehne Ditch Company and introducing the first mill and threshing machine into the area. William Hoehne farmed 1,000 acres, planting strawberries, apples, and cherries. Hoehne is still a farming community, but the focus has shifted from fruits to alfalfa and grass hay.
