Hamden Middle School

Hamden Middle School is a two-year middle school for grades 7 and 8, located at 2623 Dixwell Ave. in Hamden, Connecticut. It is the only public middle school within the Hamden Public School District. It was the 1998-99 Connecticut School of the Year. The current principal is Daniel Levy. The assistant principals are Jessica Coffey, Grade 8 and Rhonda Jackson, Grade 7 .

Sacred Heart Academy is a young women's preparatory, Roman Catholic high school located in Hamden, Connecticut, and is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford. It is run by the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an order of religious sisters founded in Italy by Mother Clelia Merloni. Their team mascot is the Pacers. Their brother school is Notre Dame High School West Haven, Connecticut, and their sister school is Cor Jesu Academy in St. Louis, Missouri.

Lake Whitney (Connecticut)

Lake Whitney is a lake in Hamden, Connecticut that is a part of the Mill River. The lake was a water source for the New Haven, Connecticut metro area, until it was discontinued in the early 1990s. Now with a new water treatment facility rated for up to 15 million gallons a day, Lake Whitney has been reconnected as a reserve water source for the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority.

Mount Sacred Heart College

Mount Sacred Heart College was a small Catholic women's college in Hamden, Connecticut. It was founded in 1946 and closed in the summer of 1997 due to low enrollment. It was founded and operated by the Missionary Zelatrices of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an Italian religious institute founded in 1894 now known as the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It was designed as a sisters' college, or a college primarily designed to educate nuns.

As of the 2010 Census, the county population is 862,477 making it the third most populated county in Connecticut. There are 1,340 people per square mile. Two of the state's largest cities, New Haven (2nd) and Waterbury (5th), are part of New Haven County. County governments were abolished in Connecticut in 1960.
