The station is currently owned by University of New Haven. Broadcasting at 88.7 MHz in stereo, the station first signed on at 1600 EDT on June 4, 1973 in mono. The station went stereo during "Tommy's " 11am - 2 pm Tuesday show, who was the Music director from 1975-78.

WAVZ is a radio station broadcasting a Sports Talk format. Licensed to New Haven, Connecticut, USA. The station is currently owned by Cc Licenses. The station switched formats in time for Super Bowl XLI on February 4, 2007. The station, then owned by Kops-Monahan Communications, Inc. was formerly known as the New Waves, or Lucky 13 WAVZ (pronounced "waves") and was a popular Top 40 radio station in the 1960s and 1970s.
