Green Pond, Florida

Green Pond is small area in Polk County, Florida, south of Clermont, Florida and north of Polk City, Florida, on the edge of the Green Swamp. It was the site of a community in the 19th century. A cemetery remains. The area was settled by many families in the early-to-mid-19th century. Some of the surnames of people in the area were Judy, Grimmes, and Roberts. Many of the Judy family can still be found throughout the area. The Judy name was an Irish name and dates back to the 14th century.

Withlacoochee River (Florida)

The Withlacoochee River (or Crooked River) originates in central Florida's Green Swamp, east of Polk City. It flows west, then north, and then turns northwest and finally west again before it empties into the Gulf of Mexico near Yankeetown. The river is 141 miles long and has a drainage basin of 1,170 square miles . It is believed to have been named after the Withlacoochee River to the north.
