Ottumwa Heights College

Ottumwa Heights College was a liberal arts women's college based in Ottumwa, Iowa. The school was affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and was operated by the Sisters of Humility of Mary. The institution was founded in 1864 as the Visitation Academy. In 1925, it was renamed the St. Joseph Academy. It received its first collegiate accreditation in 1928 and became known as the St. Joseph Junior College, taking its final name in 1930.

Coal Palace

The Coal Palace was a temporary exhibition center that stood in Ottumwa, Iowa from 1890 until 1892. It was used most prominently to showcase the local coal mining industry. During its brief history President Benjamin Harrison and Congressman William McKinley visited the building, but a decline in attendance and nature's toll on the building's exterior ultimately resulted in the building's demolition in 1892.

Canteen Lunch in the Alley

Canteen Lunch in the Alley is a restaurant located at 112 East 2nd Street in Ottumwa, Iowa. The original five-stool Canteen Lunch was opened in 1927 in a different location, and moved to its current address in 1936. It has since been a local institution known for their loose-meat sandwiches and homemade pies. The restaurant's design is a horseshoe-shaped counter-top surrounded by 16 stools.
