Tensas Parish (French: Paroisse des Tensas) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The seat of the parish is St. Joseph. In 2010, the population of Tensas Parish was 5,252; it is the least-populous of all sixty-four parishes. The 2011 estimated population declined again—to 5,066 persons. Tensas Parish is 56 percent African American. The name Tensas is derived from the Taensa people.

The downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

It consists of some 3,000 acres of unusually clear water, particularly suited for swimming, boating, and fishing. Part of the lake is owned by the state, which operates Lake Bruin State Park, one of nineteen Louisiana state parks.

Newellton is a town in northern Tensas Parish in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population is 1,227 in the 2010 census, a decline of 255 persons, or 17 percent, from the 2000 tabulation of 1,482. Newellton in 2010 was 51 percent African American; in earlier census reports it had been 60 to 65 percent black. The average age of the population there is 41 years.
