Allegan, Michigan

Allegan is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,998 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Allegan County. The city lies within Allegan Township, but is administratively autonomous. Allegan was named by Michigan historian Henry Rowe Schoolcraft in 1837 to sound like a Native American word. Land was purchased from government to form the downtown business district; village organization came in 1838 with city incorporation authorized in 1907.

Allegan High School is a public high school in Allegan, Michigan. It has a total of 828 students in grades 9 - 12. The school mascot is the Tiger and the school colors are black and orange. Allegan is a member of the Wolverine Conference. Activities offered at the school include baseball, basketball, bowling, competitive cheer, cross country, football, golf, sideline cheer, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling.

Allegan (meteorite)

Allegan is an H chondrite meteorite that fell to earth on July 10, 1899 in Michigan, United States. It belongs to the petrologic type 5. As of 1964, it was one of only seven known meteorites to land in Michigan. Allegan weighed around fifty pounds after its landing.

WQXC-FM

WQXC-FM (100.9 FM, "Cool 101") is a radio station broadcasting an oldies format. Licensed to Allegan, Michigan, it first began broadcasting in 1981 under the WAOP call sign. WQXC-FM was licensed to Otsego, Michigan from its sign-on until the city of license changed to Allegan in November 2006. Prior to adopting the current Oldies format aimed at the Kalamazoo market, the station had programmed Adult Contemporary music focused toward the Otsego/Allegan area.
