Fort H. G. Wright

Fort H. G. Wright was a United States military installation on Fishers Island, just 2 miles off the coast of southeastern Connecticut, but technically in New York. It was linked with Fort Terry, Fort Michie, and Camp Hero to defend the eastern entrance of Long Island Sound. Named for Union General Horatio G. Wright who was born in Clinton, Connecticut.

North Dumpling Island

North Dumpling Island is the northernmost of two islands in Fishers Island Sound, located approximately 0.3 nautical miles north of South Dumpling Island. The two-acre (8,000 m²) island is privately owned by Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway Human Transporter, and is home to the North Dumpling Lighthouse. It is located one mile off the coast of Connecticut, south of Groton, Connecticut, but is within the territory of the New York State town of Southold.

Groton Long Point

Groton Long Point (GLP) is a political subdivision of the town of Groton, on Long Island Sound in New London County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 667 at the 2000 census. Used mostly by families as a summer resort, life in Groton Long Point is very different depending on the season. The area is administered by the Groton Long Point Association (GLPA), which was established by an act of the Connecticut Legislature in 1921.

Thames River (Connecticut)

The Thames River is a short river and tidal estuary in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It flows south for 15 miles through eastern Connecticut from the junction of the Yantic and Shetucket rivers at Norwich, to New London and Groton, which flank its mouth at Long Island Sound. The Thames River watershed includes a number of smaller basins and the 80-mile-long Quinebaug River, which rises in southern Massachusetts and joins the Shetucket River about 4 miles northeast of Norwich.
