Brown Mountain (North Carolina)

Brown Mountain is a low-lying ridge, approximately 1.5 miles long, in the Pisgah National Forest near Morganton, North Carolina, on the border of Burke and Caldwell Counties. For perhaps hundreds of years, and since at least the early 1900s, mysterious illuminations known as the Brown Mountain Lights have been seen there. The lights are small balls that appear irregularly over Brown Mountain.

Little Chestnut Mountain

Chestnut Mountain is a mountain in the North Carolina High Country, USA, and wholly in the Pisgah National Forest. Its elevation reaches 2,480 feet (756 m) and is split between Burke County and Caldwell counties. The mountain generates feeder streams for the Catawba River.

Mortimer, North Carolina

Mortimer, North Carolina is a ghost town in Wilson Creek Township, Caldwell County, in the northwestern part of the state. Once a mill town with a population of around 800, the town flooded in 1940 and was subsequently abandoned. Several remains are extant today, including machinery from the mill and the foundations of several buildings.
