Newton-Conover High School (NCHS) is a public secondary school located in Newton, North Carolina. It is the larger of two high schools in the Newton-Conover City Schools system (the other being the Newton-Conover Health and Science High School). NCHS has many notable alumni, including NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion and two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Jarrett; surgeon and NASCAR commentator Dr. Jerry Punch; and NASCAR owner, crew chief, and commentator Andy Petree.

Catawba County is part of the Hickory–Lenoir–Morganton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Catawba County is part of the data center corridor. St. James Lutheran Church (Newton, North Carolina)

Hickory Motor Speedway

Hickory Motor Speedway is a short track located in Hickory, North Carolina. It is one of stock car racing's most storied venues, and is often referred to as "The World's Most Famous Short Track" and the "Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars". The track first opened in 1951 as a {{convert/{{{2}}}|1/2\\Mi|0|||||||r=re|d=LoffAoffDbSon|s=}} dirt track. Gwyn Staley won the first race at the speedway and later became the first track champion.
