The town was never formally incorporated having never gained a large enough permanent population. The population was 8 at the 2000 census, having dropped from a high of 20 in 1950. The town's affairs are handled by the Unified Towns & Gores Of Essex County. It is part of the Berlin, NH–VT Micropolitan Statistical Area.

Halls Stream

Halls Stream is a 25.2 mile long (40.5 km) tributary of the Connecticut River. For most of its length, it forms the boundary between Canada and the United States, with the province of Quebec to its west and the state of New Hampshire to its east. The stream flows from north to south, with a logging landscape on the New Hampshire side, and a mixture of woodland and farms on the Quebec side.
