St. Paul High School, located in St. Paul, Virginia was part of Wise County Public Schools. St. Paul High educated approximately 200 students ranging from 8th through 12th grades. The school recently submitted its application for President Obama's Race to the Top High School Commencement Challenge. After the 2010-2011 school year, St. Paul High School closed when Wise County Public Schools consolidated Coeburn High School and St. Paul to form Eastside High School in Coeburn, Virginia.

Oxbow Lake

An oxbow lake is a U-shaped body of water formed when a wide meander from the main stem of a river is cut off to create a lake. This landform is called an oxbow lake for the distinctive curved shape, named after part of a yoke for oxen. In Australia, an oxbow lake is called a billabong, derived from Wiradjuri, an indigenous language. The word "oxbow" can also refer to a U-shaped bend in a river or stream, whether or not it is cut off from the main stream.

Nora, Virginia

Nora is a small, unincorporated town in Dickenson County in the state of Virginia. In the 2000 US census, its population is listed as 566. Nora is built along one side of the McClure River. Ervinton High School is located in Nora. Coal mining has always been the primary business for the town and county. However, in recent years natural gas production has increased sharply because it has become possible to extract gas from the underlying Huron Shale formation.
