It is named Virgilina because it is located on the Virginia and North Carolina border. Buffalo Springs, Mecklenburg County, Virginia

Buffalo Springs (formerly, Buffalo Mineral Springs and Buffalo Lithia Springs) is an unincorporated community in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. It lies at an elevation of 364 feet (111 m). Buffalo Springs specifically refers to a natural spring found in the area. The water was once bottled and sold until courts ruled they could no longer use the word 'Lithia' in the marketing of the product.

Hyco River

The Hyco River is a tributary of the Dan River, which is a tributary of the Roanoke River. All three rivers flow through the U.S. states of North Carolina and Virginia. In Person County, North Carolina the Hyco River is impounded by a dam, forming Hyco Lake.

Mayo Lake

Mayo Lake is a reservoir located in northeastern Person County, North Carolina. Boating entrance, walking trails, swimming access, picnic and camp site areas (collectively known as Mayo Park) are accessed from Neals Store Road about 9 miles north of the city of Roxboro along NC 49. It is the smaller of Person County's two lakes. Also known as Mayo Reservoir, it was created by a dam impoundment of Mayo Creek (not to be confused with the Mayo River).
