Sutherland Middle School

Sutherland Middle School is a public middle school located in Charlottesville, Virginia. Sutherland consists of students from Baker-Butler, Hollymead, and Stony Point Elementary Schools. When students graduate from Sutherland they attend Albemarle High School. Sutherland was built to accommodate the growing area of northern Albemarle County. This area continues as Sutherland has grown from 425 students to over 600 students.

Albemarle Barracks

For the RAF army barracks also known as Albemarle Barracks, see RAF Ouston Albemarle Barracks was a prisoner-of-war camp for British prisoners during the American Revolutionary War. Following Gen. John Burgoyne's defeat at the Battle of Saratoga, in 1777, several thousand British and German troops, of what came to be known as the Convention Army, were marched to Cambridge, Massachusetts. For various reasons, the Continental Congress desired to move them south.
